Description

Leather craftsman constructs, decorates, and repairs a wide variety of leather products using hand and machine tools.

Responsibilities:
Design and pattern making: Create or follow patterns to measure and cut leather pieces for products like bags, shoes, and belts.
Construction: Join leather pieces using a variety of methods, including hand or machine stitching, glue, and rivets.
Finishing: Apply stains, dyes, wax, and polish to the leather to achieve a desired look and finish.
Decoration: Embellish products through techniques like stamping, engraving, and painting.
Repair: Inspect leather goods for damage and repair them by replacing parts, re-sewing seams, or reconditioning materials.
Quality control: Inspect finished items to ensure they meet quality standards and are free of defects.
Skills and tools
Skills: Attention to detail, creativity, and the ability to cooperate with others are important.
Tools: This role requires proficiency with hand tools, such as knives and punches, as well as sewing and buffing machines.
Materials: Workers use a variety of leathers and other materials like fabric, fleece, and wood.
