Position Title: Forest and Wilderness Guide
Reports To: Program Director

Role Overview

The Forest and Wilderness Guide leads learners in outdoor, nature-based experiences, promoting environmental awareness, survival skills, and a deep appreciation for the natural world. The role combines educational guidance, safety supervision, and experiential learning, ensuring participants gain both knowledge and confidence in wilderness settings.

Key Responsibilities

Plan, organise, and lead forest walks, wilderness treks, and outdoor expeditions.
Educate participants on flora, fauna, ecosystems, sustainability, and conservation practices.
Teach basic survival skills such as navigation, shelter-building, fire safety, and responsible resource use.
Ensure health, safety, and risk management protocols are followed during all outdoor activities.
Maintain equipment and ensure all materials are prepared for activities.
Support environmental initiatives, including tree planting, habitat restoration, and waste reduction.
Collaborate with teachers, program directors, and other staff to integrate outdoor learning with academic and personal development goals.

Qualifications & Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Outdoor Education, Forestry, or related field (preferred).
Professional certification in outdoor leadership, first aid, or wilderness survival.
Minimum 1-3 years of experience in outdoor guiding, environmental education, or adventure leadership.
Strong knowledge of local ecosystems, plants, wildlife, and conservation practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical fitness and ability to work in varied outdoor conditions.
Commitment to sustainability, safety, and lifelong learning.
