Description

A gypsum board worker (also known as a drywall installer or gypsum carpenter) installs, finishes, and repairs gypsum panels, drywalls, and false ceilings in residential and commercial buildings.

Key Responsibilities

• Reading Plans: Reviewing architectural blueprints, layouts, and technical drawings to determine dimensions, materials, and placement.
• Framing & Layout: Erection of metal framing (GI channels), wall studs, and ceiling furring channels using laser levels or chalk lines.
• Measuring & Cutting: Scribing, measuring, and cutting gypsum boards and trim to fit walls, partitions, and curved or standard ceilings.
• Installing Panels: Fastening gypsum boards to wood or metal studs using drywall screws, nails, or adhesives.
• Joint Finishing & Taping: Applying fiber mesh tape, joint compound (mud/putty) over seams, screw holes, and corners, followed by sanding for a smooth finish.
• Specialty Work: Installing decorative elements like cornices, molding, or cutouts for lighting fixtures, air vents, and electrical outlets.
• Site Safety: Maintaining a clean workspace and following proper safety rules, including working on ladders or scaffolding.
