Job Summary:

The Chief Resident – Paediatrics is a senior clinical leadership role responsible for overseeing resident doctors and providing advanced clinical care to paediatric patients, with a strong focus on the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The role involves supervising junior medical staff, managing critically ill children, ensuring high standards of clinical care, and coordinating multidisciplinary treatment plans in accordance with hospital and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:Clinical Duties

Manage and provide expert care for critically ill paediatric patients in the PICU
Perform advanced paediatric assessments, diagnosis, and treatment planning
Lead emergency response and resuscitation for paediatric cases
Oversee ventilator management, inotropic support, and critical care procedures
Ensure accurate documentation of patient history, progress notes, and treatment plans
Leadership & Supervision

Supervise and mentor junior residents and medical officers in paediatrics and PICU
Coordinate daily ward rounds and PICU rounds with consultants
Ensure adherence to clinical protocols, infection control, and patient safety standards
Assist in scheduling and duty rosters for resident doctors
Coordination & Communication

Liaise with multidisciplinary teams including nursing staff, anaesthesia, surgery, and allied health professionals
Communicate effectively with families regarding patient condition and treatment plans
Participate in clinical meetings, case discussions, and morbidity & mortality reviews
Academic & Training Responsibilities

Conduct teaching sessions, bedside training, and clinical demonstrations for junior staff
Participate in continuous medical education (CME) and departmental training programs
Contribute to clinical audits, research activities, and quality improvement initiatives
Quality & Compliance

Ensure compliance with hospital policies, NHRA/regulatory standards, and ethical medical practices
Participate in clinical audits and implement evidence-based practices in paediatric care
Qualifications & Requirements:

MBBS with MD/DNB in Paediatrics (or equivalent recognized qualification)
Valid medical license/registration (as per country requirements)
Minimum 5–7 years of clinical experience in Paediatrics, including significant PICU experience
Prior experience in a senior residency or chief resident role preferred
Strong skills in paediatric emergency and critical care management
Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
Preferred Skills:

Experience in mechanical ventilation and advanced life support in children
Familiarity with hospital electronic medical record systems
Ability to handle high-pressure emergency situations
Strong academic and teaching background
