Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Machine Shop Manager to lead a small CNC production team.

This is a key role responsible for driving efficiency, managing day-to-day production activity, and contributing directly to the success of the business.
As Machine Shop Manager, you will be closely involved with shop floor operations, working hands-on with the team while collaborating with wider stakeholders to ensure smooth and efficient delivery. This role will suit a technically minded individual with a strong background in machining and a passion for improving production processes.

Machine Shop Manager – Key Responsibilities – Machining / CNC / Precision Engineering

* Technical Drawing & Quoting: Accurately interpret engineering drawings and prepare competitive quotations; a core responsibility of the role
* Job Booking & Planning: Book confirmed work and plan jobs to ensure an efficient production flow
* Hands-On Production Support: Maintain a visible presence on the shop floor within a subcontract CNC machining environment
* Communication & Coordination: Act as the link between management and shop floor teams, leading daily discussions on workload and priorities
* Lean & Continuous Improvement: Drive lean manufacturing initiatives to improve efficiency and optimize processes
* Supplier & Subcontractor Management: Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors, including occasional site visits
* Quality Oversight: Support and improve quality standards across machining operations
* Ownership & Accountability: Take responsibility for delivery and see tasks through to completion

* Machine Shop Manager – Skills & Experience - Machining / CNC / Precision Engineering

* Strong technical background in machining with a solid understanding of CNC production
* Proven ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings
* Experience with estimating, pricing and understanding commercial impact
* Clear communicator able to work effectively with shop floor teams and external partners
* Hands-on, proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement
* Organized and flexible, able to manage quoting, planning and external liaison
