JOB DESCRIPTION – CAR MECHANIC

A car mechanic or automotive technician diagnoses, maintains, and repairs vehicles by inspecting systems like engines, brakes, and electrical components, using both manual tools and diagnostic equipment to identify issues. Key duties include performing routine maintenance, replacing parts, conducting diagnostic tests, explaining repairs to customers, and maintaining service records. The role requires mechanical aptitude, strong problem-solving skills, good manual dexterity, and customer service abilities.
Key Responsibilities
• Diagnostics:
Identify and diagnose problems with a vehicle's mechanical and electronic systems using diagnostic equipment and test parts and systems.
• Maintenance & Repair:
Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes and tire rotations, and repair or replace worn or damaged parts.
• System Expertise:
Work on various vehicle systems, including engines, brakes, transmissions, and increasingly complex electronic and electrical systems.
• Customer Interaction:
Communicate with customers to understand concerns, explain identified problems, suggest repairs, and ensure satisfaction with services performed.
• Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate records of all vehicle inspections, maintenance performed, and repairs made.
• Workplace Organization:
Keep a clean and organized workspace, and ensure all tools and equipment are properly maintained.
Required Skills & Qualities
• Technical Proficiency:
Strong understanding of vehicle systems, including mechanical, electronic, and electrical components.
• Mechanical Aptitude:
Demonstrated ability to work with various hand and power tools to perform repairs and maintenance effectively.
• Diagnostic Skills:
Ability to use computerized diagnostic equipment to identify malfunctions in various vehicle systems.
• Problem-Solving:
Conscientious and meticulous approach to troubleshooting and solving complex automotive issues.
• Communication:
Effective communication skills to explain technical information to customers and collaborate with other technicians and management.
• Physical Stamina:
Possess the physical strength and dexterity to lift heavy components and work in various positions.
• Organization:
Ability to stay organized, manage tasks, and maintain a proper workspace.
